Los estereotipos estéticos impuestos en los medios de comunicación se han visto reforzados en publicaciones de revistas que entregan tips para verse “mejor”, con consejos del tipo qué usar si eres de cierta talla.

Pero una recomendación realizada por el director creativo de la revista The Oprah Magazine, Adam Glassman, hizo reaccionar a muchas usuarias en redes sociales por un discriminador comentario en el magazine femenino.

“Si (¡y sólo si!) tienes un vientre plano siente la libertad de intentar usar” fue la recomendación que hacía el especialista en moda refiriéndose a los “crop tops” (polera que deja ver el ombligo), prenda de moda en la temporada estival norteamericana, consignó el medio nacional BioBioChile.

La redactora neoyorquina Tamar Anitai, al ver la publicación le hizo una captura y la compartió a través de su cuenta de Instagram por el nivel de discriminación de los dichos de Glassman.

La redactora afirmó que lo primordial es sentirse saludable, de ahí que “parte de la salud es el autoestima y eso está intrínsecamente conectado a la imagen corporal”.

“Dejen de decir a las mujeres lo que no pueden usar. Podemos usar y hacer cualquier cosa que nos haga sentir fuertes, potentes, apasionadas y a cargo de nuestro propio destino. Espero que las mujeres jóvenes y las de cualquier edad no se sientan restringidas por reglas de moda editorialmente impuestas. Las únicas reglas son que no hay reglas. Usa lo que te gusta, lo que te haga sentir segura. La confianza es el poder, y es contagiosa”, afirmó Tamar.  

Asimismo, la fashion blogger de talla grande, Sarah Conley, hizo alusión en su página web Style It a que le extraña ver este tipo de publicaciones en la revista de Oprah Winfrey, quien ha luchado durante toda su carrera con el peso.

Tras estos dichos afirmó que actualmente estamos en una era del “fatkini”, donde predominan las campañas en redes sociales y las fashion bloggers de talla grande, por lo que ya no caben ese tipo de pensamientos de “mente estrecha” y por la misma razón instó a que con el hashtag #RockTheCrop sus seguidoras subieran fotos usando crop tops.

Los comentarios de la fashion blogger hicieron eco, y rápidamente mujeres de talla grande comenzaron a subir fotos en Instagram demostrando que el director creativo de The Oprah Magazine estaba equivocado.

Luego de la polémica, representantes de la revista entregaron sus impresiones al respecto en el portal Buzzfeed, donde afirmaron que ellos apoyan y fomentan que todas las mujeres se sientan seguras consigo mismas, asumiendo que la expresión utilizada por Glassman no fue la más apropiada. “Agradecemos los comentarios y estaremos más atentos en el futuro”, concluyeron.
